This book has quite an interesting story to it and could have been a 4* read for me but there were a few things that I felt needed improvement. I found myself having to go back to check up on character names as I felt that there were just too many of them to keep up with. Some of them seemed to have interesting stories themselves but there seemed to be a confusion of too many characters. Some perhaps needed to be dropped completely, and some were either given too much or too little development, which made me feel that they were all swirling around in a pot of good ideas that never quite delivered.
However, having said that I think it was a good solid debut novel and will be interested to see how this writer develops in the future. This is a book that I think I would like to see the writer re-visit when she is more established as I think with a more subtle style and more experienced character development there could be a really good story in here.
