From the comfort of my sofa

I just like to read! There is no greater pleasure than a peaceful house and a good book. I will read most genres but not sure I have the imagination to really "get" some science fiction and fantasy.

My favourite non-thriller book this year!

Moving - Jenny Eclair

Thank you to NetGalley and Little Brown Book Group UK for the chance to read this novel in exchange for my honest review.

This book is just wonderful and had me absolutely hooked from the first page. I have read one of Jenny Éclair’s earlier books and quite liked it but this one is just wonderfully written, the characters are so well drawn and the style so impressive that I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Told initially from the point of view of Edwina, an elderly lady who has decided that she can no longer live alone in her large house we are taken on a tour through the rooms and Edwina’s memories of her life and we are introduced to her family and the interweaving stories of each of them. As the story develops and other characters emerge to have their stories told the book leads you through a lifetime of emotions, heartbreaks, tragedy and loss. I was thoroughly absorbed by this book and felt a genuine loss when it ended.

This is such an impressive book and Jenny Éclair is obviously a very great talent at the peak of her game. As I said at the beginning - JUST WONDERFUL.
